Meet Mikkel C. Nielsen, Lead Engineer at UBIQ Aerospace. Mikkel holds a Ph.D. in Marine Cybernetics from NTNU. Before joining UBIQ Aerospace, he was working as a researcher focusing on AI and using machine learning method to control underwater robots.
Can you tell us a bit more about your role at UBIQ?
– My job is to decide how we can implement our systems in a feasible way. It’s more towards the engineering part compared to how I worked in academia.
What motivates you?
– Learning. I think theory is extremely fascinating and I really like the cross-section where you apply the theory to see how it works in reality.
Who’s your favourite Nobel prize winner?
– Daniel Kahneman. In his book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” he shows how intuition misguides us. Especially as an engineer you have to keep asking yourself: how believable is this?
If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
– The older I get the more I understand that time is the main factor in our lives. It would be really nice to be able to manipulate time. I would slow it down and I would also get more time to sleep. It might not save the world, but it would save my world!
